Stop The Lights. I Want Off.

We will get through the Corona situation at some point, no doubt. What choice do we have but to do so!
.
At present and for a long time in the future, it seems a great deal of fun or simple ease of doing things more publicly, has gone out of life.
.
Staying in hotels in Ireland, already previously, an expensive rip-off in prices, is set to get worse for a simple bed and roof over your head. Up will go more prices for even lesser quality service. You will be asked to behave as if you are entering a hospital infection ward than just approaching a receptionist. Higher star rated places will struggle to hold on to their rankings it seems, given the imposition of CV19 safety measures. Bills will get higher because of a changed form of service.
.
Going to a bar and enjoying the ‘craic’ there with others, will become a far less enjoyable thing. CV19 rules here too reducing once existing pleasures, down to a minimum. The fact that we are even talking about traffic light for toilets and keeping distances as if we all have rabies, has sucked the life out of a future bar visit for many.
.
Even going to the shops now is often a pain in the arse. You must do this, that, and the other… You can only walk up one side of a shopping center and only down the other. Far less ability to wander around at ease in shops. Stick to the set out, flow passage designed or get out. I’m more opting not to go at all. I’m not on my own.
.
Social clubs, no hugging, no shaking of hands or any physical sign of welcome allowed. Again, keep your distance. Unclean, unclean, “keep away from me” atmosphere. More safety rules and lines drawn on the ground to separate us. “Can you stay behind the line please?”
.
Try flying or getting on a bus soon? Forget your mask? You might not be allowed travel. The EU/WHO is pushing for stricter rules. “Can you pay by card please? No, we are not taking cash!” Am I supposed to to hand my credit card to my 14 year old if he now wants to go out and buy a bloody ice cream? Seriously? “What do you mean I had to order it on-line first?” F**k me! You want me to make a reservation just to go to a shop? Feck off
.
You want me to tap my card again? I feel like I want to tap my toe up the arse of a Dracula that sucking the life out of me! I must remember it’s not their fault. I’m just browned off.
.
I’m also glad I’m married and know that it is to be loved. How our youngers are going to date or often meet up, is going to be a pain in the arse for them! Bars being more a pain to visit, dance floors gone, more rules, less privacy and moments of any intimacy reduced. The ability to ‘read’ a person, more gone. More mistakes made. Safety could be an even bigger issue now when meeting strangers. “Can you keep your distance please?” Should daters now swap over their medical history first? I’m glad I’m old and not have to go through all this stuff, the hassle. I feel for anyone that has to. You have my sympathy and best wishes.
.
The truth is that we will adapt and survive – but life right now is far less enjoyable. Professionals are already seeing a higher rise in mental health issues. Seriously. That should tell you something.
.
I’m not looking forward to the future. I’m really not. Our kids are entering a different world to the one us older ones had previously existing. I feel sorry for them. The “new normal” is already a phrase I am sick of hearing. The “new normal” is a PR way of saying “life has been sucked out of many things”. You can keep it.
.
This older fart will try to enjoy life still. Even if that is now harder to do. I will be staying at home a lot more, inviting friends around. We shall even more drink at home. Pubs, restaurants and hotels? Pass. Holidays or cruises abroad now? Do I need the hassle for bigger expense and a greater logistical pain? Not really.
.
This is me venting here but I think you will agree, there is elements of truth in my words. Right now we are not living life, we are surviving life. I’m already tired of it all. Stop the lights please, I want to get off! The end of the ride seems far less to fear now.
